Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) has announced that over 1,200 housing agreements have been signed as part of the government’s Gedhoruveriyaa social housing initiative, just weeks after the process officially commenced.
Out of the 2,665 eligible recipients whose names were submitted by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure on July 21, a total of 1,202 agreements have been finalized so far. FDC aims to complete all agreement signings within the next three months.
To facilitate a smooth process, recipients are notified via SMS and instructed to upload the required documents through the “Fahi Portal.” Once verified, applicants are assigned time slots to sign their agreements in person at the Hulhumalé Synthetic Track, where FDC operates 10 service counters from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
FDC added that priority is being given to towers that are ready for occupancy, allowing families to move in as soon as possible.
The Gedhoruveriyaa project is the largest ongoing social housing development in the Malé region, comprising 32 residential towers with two- and three-bedroom units. Construction is being handled by two Indian firms: Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL), responsible for 16 towers under the name Amaan Udhares, and the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), which is building another 16 towers branded Amaan Dhoadhi. Over 80% of the construction work on both sets of towers is already complete.
With progress reaching its final stages, officials expect the handover of units to begin before the end of this month, marking a significant milestone for thousands of Maldivian families awaiting their new homes.
