President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the development of a FIFA-standard football stadium and a state-of-the-art sports complex in Nolhivaranfaru, as part of his ongoing tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The announcement follows the signing of agreements between the Ministry of Sports and two major companies. The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been contracted to build the football stadium, while the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) will develop the sports complex.
Addressing island residents at a community gathering, President Muizzu described the projects as a major leap forward for sports development in the Maldives. “When these two things happen, it will actually open a huge door for achieving great successes in the development of sports in a very complete manner,” he said.
The president acknowledged that the sports complex is a large-scale project that will require time to complete. However, he assured residents that interim measures will be taken to support ongoing sports activities. As part of these efforts, work on a new outdoor volleyball court in Nolhivaranfaru will begin soon.
President Muizzu also emphasized that relevant ministries will be tasked with ensuring the timely and effective implementation of both projects.
