Four seasoned coaches have submitted applications to take charge of the Maldives National Under-17 Football Team, with each meeting the key requirement of holding an AFC A License.
Among the applicants are two pioneers of the country’s first-ever A License course—Ahmed Nashid (Naadhu) and Mohamed Shahid (Shaad). They are joined by Sobah Mohamed Rasheed (Sobah), who earned his A License last year, and Fareed Mohamed (Faritte'), a long-time figure in youth football development.
Sobah recently coached New Radiant in the League Cup organized by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) this April. He also previously served as Assistant Coach for the national Under-23 team under Coach Ali Suzain.
Shaad brings extensive experience, having worked with both the senior national team and the Under-23 side. Naadhu, meanwhile, has coached across various age levels and led the National Women’s Team. His club experience spans several top-tier teams, including Victory, Valencia, Super United Sports, and The Grande.
Fareed, currently the Head Coach at Odi Sports Academy, has a strong background in development football. He formerly served as Assistant Coach for the Under-19 national team.
FAM is seeking a full-time coach who meets several criteria, including at least five years of experience at the youth or club level, a solid understanding of age-appropriate training methodologies, and the ability to scout and develop young talent. The successful candidate will also be expected to collaborate closely with FAM’s technical department and other national team coaches.
The selection process is ongoing, with FAM aiming to strengthen the development pathway for young players through the appointment of a capable and experienced head coach for the U-17 squad.
